S.M.I.L.E.

In April, COR employees and family enjoyed a Sunday volunteering at S.M.I.L.E. Inc. south of Battle Creek, Ne. It was a fun time had by all, while also assisting with an amazing program. The crew helped the Director, Patty Prauner, clean and prepare her tack room for the upcoming season. A couple of COR staff members even got to enjoy some time meeting the horses used in the program. It was very rewarding giving back to someone who enjoys supporting those that just need a helping hand.

S.M.I.L.E (Stephanie's Miracles in Loving Equine) began in 1992. Patty Prauner developed the idea after she helped her cousin's daughter, Stephanie, learn about horses. Stephanie, who had a physical disability, was able to physically relax while on a horse. S.M.I.L.E. now provides therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children and adults with a wide range of special needs. Also known as equine-assisted activity or adaptive riding, these riding lessons serve those with cognitive, physical and emotional conditions.

The S.M.I.L.E. program runs from May through September. They are in need of volunteers in many different areas; including, helping instructors with the horses, working with students, and helping with general maintenance.
